Mach designed the new John W. Deans Collaborative Learning Center at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York. This project is highlighted in the 2016 Architecture Portfolio of Penton’s American School & University magazine. (November 2016 edition) An annual competition honoring design excellence, the Architectural Portfolio spotlights projects representing today’s most effective learning environments.
Colleges across the nation are struggling to make existing libraries conform to meet current needs of students, faculty and staff. Campus libraries that were designed before the internet even existed provide challenges for the way students learn and study today. The innovative design of the Collaborative Learning Center results in a new model that maximizes opportunities for student, faculty and community collaboration. The facility takes the traditional library and media center functions and supplements them with a Learning and Success Center, a Career Planning and Placement Center, Strategies to Achieve Results program, Veterans Services, tutoring and a technology rich collaborative classroom.
The design team at Mach worked closely with the College to capture the vision of this integrated library and technology hub. The ultimate goal of the CLC is to support student success.
